On June 29, 2017, Wuhan Municipal Government signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Xiaomi Technology, Kingsoft, and Shunwei Capital in Wuhan. On January 9, 2018, Xiaomi and Oculus jointly released the Xiaomi Mi VR all-in-one machine and Oculus Go at the CES 2018 exhibition.  

On January 29, 2018, Xiaomi launched the Mi Box 4.  

On March 27, 2018, Xiaomi held a press conference in Shanghai and released the Xiaomi MIX 2S full-screen mobile phone, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and dual cameras.  

On April 25, 2018, Xiaomi held a press conference at Wuhan University and released the Xiaomi 6X mobile phone, equipped with Snapdragon 660 and AI dual camera.  

On the evening of May 13, 2018, Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, issued an internal letter to set up a separate camera department within the mobile phone department to enhance the camera function of mobile phones.

On July 17, 2018, Xiaomi started selling Redmi Note 5 in South Korea through local operators, which means that it officially entered the South Korean market.  

On July 19, 2018, Xiaomi participated in the 2018 3rd China Economy and Brand Innovation Summit.

On August 7, 2018, the Shanghai Municipal Government and Xiaomi Group signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Shanghai.  

On September 13, 2018, Xiaomi Group established a new group organization department and group staff.

On November 19, 2018, Xiaomi released its third quarter financial report and at the same time announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with Meitu. 

According to the content of the cooperation, Meitu will exclusively authorize the brand, image technology and second-level domain names of its Meitu mobile phones to Xiaomi Group on a global scale. 

Xiaomi will be responsible for the R&D, production, sales and promotion of Meitu mobile phones after authorization; Meitu will continue to provide joint support for imaging technology and beauty algorithms. 

In addition, Xiaomi is also authorized to produce and promote a series of smart hardware products under the Meitu brand (except skin-related smart hardware products).

On November 26, 2018, Xiaomi's Wuhan headquarters project officially started in Optics Valley. 

The project is close to the government affairs center of Donghu High-tech Zone and is positioned as a "super-large R&D headquarters".

Year 2019 

On January 6, 2019, TCL Group issued an announcement announcing that Xiaomi Group will strategically take a stake in TCL Group.  

On January 10, 2019, Xiaomi officially launched the Redmi Note 7 at a press conference in Beijing. It is equipped with a 48-megapixel rear dual camera and a 6.3-inch water drop screen. The price starts at 999 yuan.

Lei Jun also announced the official independence of the Redmi brand at the press conference and appointed Lu Weibing as the vice president of Xiaomi Group and the general manager of the Redmi brand. 

As of the third quarter of 2018, a total of 278 million Redmi mobile phones have been sold.  

On January 21, 2019, Xiaomi Group disclosed the repurchase information again. 

The company repurchased 9,849,600 Class B shares in the open market on January 18, accounting for 0.041% of the issued shares.

The total repurchase amount was close to 100 million Hong Kong dollars, with an average price. It is HK$10.1527 per Class B share.


Mi 9 Pro 5G


On February 20, 2019, Xiaomi held its annual flagship conference at Beijing University of Technology and officially released its new flagship product, Mi 9. 

Xiaomi Mi 9 is the world's first Snapdragon 855 flagship processor, up to 12GB+256GB amazing configuration.

On March 7, 2019, the Organization Department of Xiaomi Group issued a document again, announcing the establishment of the AIoT Strategy Committee. 

The AIoT Strategy Committee is subordinate to the Group Technical Committee and is responsible for promoting the collaboration of AIoT-related business and technical departments.  

On March 12, 2019, Tiger Securities, in which Xiaomi holds shares, updated the prospectus to the SEC a few days ago. 

The company will issue 13 million American Depositary Shares (ADS) at a price of US$5 to US$7 per share, with a proposed financing of up to US$91 million. 

Tiger Securities launched a global roadshow and subscription this week. It is expected to be listed on the Nasdaq Global Select section of the United States on March 20 with the stock code TIGR.

This batch of medical supplies arrived in Wuhan at noon on January 25. Xiaomi and the eco-chain enterprise decided to add more than 3 million yuan in supplies.

On February 13, 2020, Xiaomi held an online press conference and released the Xiaomi Mi 10 series, along with Xiaomi’s ice-sealed cooling back clip, Black Shark custom double-wing gamepad, vertical air-cooled wireless charging, and Xiaomi wireless Bluetooth charging. Year 2021

In 2021, Xiaomi submitted a new patent to the World Intellectual Property Organization, which showed a detachable rear camera design. 

According to the patent report, the patent has a variety of rear camera module designs, including magnets, receivers, wireless transmission and other components, and adopts a detachable design. 

The detachable camera module can be attached to the top of the mobile phone by a magnet. 

The patent image shows 2 types of rear camera modules:

This may mean that the detachable design will be suitable for various camera modules.

On the evening of February 21, 2021, Xiaomi Group issued an announcement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange saying that it had noticed recent media reports about the group's intention to enter the electric vehicle manufacturing industry. 

"The Group has always been concerned about the development of the electric vehicle ecology, and has conducted continuous evaluation and research on the trend of related industries. 

The group's research on the electric vehicle manufacturing business has not yet reached the formal project stage." 

Previously, there were reports that Xiaomi had decided to build a car and regarded it as a strategic decision, but the specific form and path have not yet been determined, and there may still be variables. 


Sales performance of Xiaomi

Since its inception, Xiaomi has maintained a growth rate that has surprised the world. Xiaomi sold 7.19 million mobile phones in 2012, 18.7 million mobile phones in 2013, 61.12 million mobile phones in 2014, more than 70 million mobile phones in 2015, and 2316 shipments in the Q2 quarter of 2017.

In the fourth quarter of 2017, in the ranking of global mobile phone sales, Xiaomi ranked fourth in the world, and created a 97.4% growth, while the growth in China was 57.6%.

IDC data shows that in the first quarter of 2018, the shipment of Xiaomi mobile phones in Western Europe was 621,000 units, making it the sixth-most-selling mobile phone brand in Western Europe.

On May 14, 2014, the vulnerability report platform Wuyun.com pointed out that it discovered a security vulnerability in the Xiaomi user community.

Incident response

Violations of "sensitive" terms. Based on the above verification, the bureau decided to open a case for investigation and handling.


The Beijing Enterprise Credit Information Network disclosed that Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. was fined 30,000 yuan by the Haidian Branch of the Beijing Administration for Industry and Commerce for publishing illegal advertisements. 

The propaganda texts such as “46 patents applied for” on the edge touch of Xiaomi 4C mobile phones published on Xiaomi’s official website violate the Advertising Law. 

According to statistics, this is the third time that Xiaomi has been punished by the industry and commerce department for advertising issues. 

The letter of the political penalty decision shows that Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. has been promoting the “Black Technology” and other textual content in the Xiaomi 4C mobile phone edge touch that has applied for 46 patents on the Xiaomi official website from September 15, 2015. 

The industry and commerce department verified that Xiaomi Technology has not yet obtained a patent certificate, only the patent application number. 

The use of patent applications for which no patent has been granted for advertising has constituted an illegal act of publishing illegal advertisements.


In September 2014, Xiaomi was fined 5,000 yuan for "advertising demeaning the goods or services of other producers and operators". Two months later, Xiaomi was fined 150,000 yuan for false propaganda. 

The reason is that the actual CPU model used by the Xiaomi Mi 3 Unicom version does not match the publicity, and the sneaking of the CPU model has caused a lot of dissatisfaction with "mi fans".


Quality gate

In mid-January 2016, the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision announced the results of a random inspection of air purifiers. 

Among the 36 batches of purifier products randomly checked, Xiaomi purifiers were labeled as "serious quality problems", and the unqualified items involved "solid pollutant clean air volume" and "noise". 

In response, Xiaomi responded on Weibo, stating that the product does not have user-level quality and safety issues. 

The results of the purification ability test in the test report are due to the inconsistency of the test method and the product software settings. 

According to reports, Xiaomi has applied for a review and transferred to the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision for processing. The results of the review have not yet been announced.


Upgrade door

On January 29, 2016, a number of netizens posted on the Xiaomi official community forum, Xiaomi Community Redmi Note3, saying that since January 28th, after using the Redmi Note3 mobile phone to update the official push upgrade package, the phone has failed.

Some netizens broke the news that after "bricking", users could not restore the original system through online flashing, and could only be sent to after-sales. 

Xiaomi after-sales also did not take flashing repair measures, but provided customers with replacement services. 

After understanding, it was found that the "brick" phenomenon was caused by the official update of the official OTA upgrade package (MIUI7.1.13.0LHOCNCL) on the Redmi Note3 phone. 

The "brick" phenomenon was particularly serious after the full Netcom version of the mobile phone was updated.


There is a response from a person on Weibo whose identity is "MIUI Weibo Operation of Xiaomi Company" saying, "Because there is a problem with the account and version verification mechanism, the issue is being processed, please contact customer service or go to Xiaomi's home to deal with it and give it to you Please forgive me for the inconvenience."


Online shopping disputes of Xiaomi

On April 8, 2014, Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xiaomi) published an advertisement on its official website: 10400mAh mobile power bank, 49 yuan special for "Mi Fan Festival". 

On the same day, Wang Xin ordered the following two mobile power sources on the website: Xiaomi Metal Power Bank 10400mAh Silver 69 yuan, and Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 5200mAh Silver 39 yuan.

After Wang Xin submitted the order, he paid 108 yuan to Xiaomi through Alipay on the same day. 

On the 12th of the same month, Wang Xin received the above two mobile power supplies and supporting data cables. 

On the 17th of the same month, Wang Xin found that the original data cable with a 5200mAh mobile power bank could not fully charge the phone, so he contacted Xiaomi’s customer service and asked to change the data cable. 

Xiaomi agreed to exchange and has received the data cable. After that, Wang Xin sued the Haidian District People’s Court of Beijing on the grounds of price fraud by Xiaomi, requesting the cancellation of the online shopping contract. 

Wang Xin returned the two sets of mobile power supplies involved in the case to Xiaomi and asked Xiaomi to: 

1. Compensate Wang Xin 500 yuan

2. Refund Wang Xin's purchase price of 108 yuan

3. Pay Wang Xin's express delivery fee of 15 yuan

4. Compensate Wang Xin for transportation, printing, and copying costs of 100 yuan. 

In the end, the court ruled that Wang Xin should return the two mobile power supplies mentioned above by Xiaomi, and Xiaomi would pay Wang Xin a guaranteed compensation of 500 yuan and refund Wang Xin's payment of 108 yuan, dismissing Wang Xin's other claims.


Copyright infringement

In April 2018, the China Music Copyright Association sued Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. for distributing 10 music works such as "Wish You Safe" and "Loyalty to the Country" on the app "Xiaomi Music" operated by it without the association's permission. 

The association has contacted the company many times. The company negotiated the use of copyright, and Xiaomi has refused to pay. 

The people’s court ruled in the first instance that Xiaomi had provided online playback and download services of the music involved in the involved apps without permission, so that the relevant public could obtain the songs involved in the case at a time and place personally selected by them, infringing upon the songwriters of the songs involved in the case. 

For the right to disseminate information on the Internet, Xiaomi Company compensated the Music Publishing Association for economic losses of 20,000 yuan and reasonable expenses of 10,000 yuan, and rejected other claims of the Music Publishing Association. The verdict was upheld in the second instance.

Reuters reported on August 6, 2020 that three Indian government sources were quoted as saying that India has banned mobile applications developed by Chinese companies such as Xiaomi. Xiaomi said in its response to the "India Express" that it is learning about the developments and will take appropriate measures.
