A Widow’s Hope since 1971 finally got some peace for Love

a partial respite when Amra Devi
finally sees her husband’s photo.

She was 18 years of
age when she got married to Sundar Singh
20, who belonged to The Brigade of the Guards regiment. He had to leave for the
war immediately and did not get a chance for any customary wedding and
henceforth there was no chance to get a picture clicked.
As during those days
to get a photograph they had to travel from their remote hill region to a nearby
studio which was in Dunda town. But as after the ceremony Sundar had to
urgently leave for the 1971 war and they
had no scope and then in the war Sundar lost his life somewhere in erstwhile
East Pakistan and thereby he had been buried there itself.
As she was newly
married she always wanted to see her husband again but that couldn’t be
possible so she quenched to at least have a photograph of him and hence she
contacted the district administration but with utter despair they even didn’t have
any record of this photograph. But they didn’t give up and the Directorate of Soldier Welfare And
Rehabilitation Department started contacting the martyrs friends from the
regiment and go through the records submitted at the regiment’s headquarters in
Maharashtra.

Finally True Love Status
Finally, after a lot of search they were lucky enough to spot him
in a group photograph which though was blur.
On the
occasion of Vijay Diwas on Sunday,
March 2019 the District administration officials gifted her the photo of her husband. Amra Devi
was delighted with tears to
see her husband once again, after all it was for about 5 decades when
she lost him.
All these years she has only longed for a sight of
him and over the time had forgotten how he looked and how he spoke.
She says that when she lost him she lost a
part of her but now she feels he is again back to her.

The Sainik Welfare Board decided to get a portrait of Sundar Singh and gift the same to
his widow.
