The Acceleration Program for Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) is a new and groundbreaking global collaboration aimed at accelerating the development, production, and fair access of COVID-19 testing tools, treatments, and vaccines.

• Every second counts in the fight against COVID-19.
• Unless everyone is safe, no one will be safe.

At the end of April 2020, at an event co-sponsored by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, the President of France, the President of the European Commission, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the COVID-19 Tool (ACT) Acceleration Plan was launched to bring governments, Scientists, business, civil society, philanthropists, and several organizations in the global health field like:

•  Epidemic Prevention Innovation Alliance
•  Foundation for Promoting Innovative Diagnostic Methods
•  Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization
•  Global Fund
•  The International Drug Procurement Mechanism
•  Wellcome Trust
•  WHO and World Bank united

 

ACT for COVID

These organizations work together to support the development and fair distribution of the tests, treatments, and vaccines needed to reduce the number of deaths and severe illnesses from COVID-19. 

Also, to fully restore global social and economic activities in the near future, while promoting the prevention of COVID-19 in the medium term. 

Diseases are controlled at a high level to accelerate the termination of this pandemic.

 

Now all Global leaders are united to ensure that everyone around the world has access to new vaccines, tests and treatments for COVID-19.

Statement from the Committee to Promote the Acceleration Plan for Access to COVID-19 Tools, Copy

1. As a member and partner of the Committee for Accelerating the Access to COVID-19 Tools, on the occasion of the committee's first meeting.
2. We agree with the vision of the Acceleration Plan, that is, as a unique international collaboration mechanism, while strengthening relevant health systems, rapid development and fair deployment of COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostics globally.
3. We thank the World Health Organization and the European Commission for their leadership and co-convening the first meeting of the Promotion Committee at this critical moment, because the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have devastating impacts on the health, society and economy of all countries, and its consequences The impact of the poor and disadvantaged groups is particularly huge.
4. We welcome South Africa and Norway as co-chairs of the committee.
5. We recognize that the fastest and most effective way to solve the COVID-19 crisis and fully mitigate its health, social and economic consequences is through global multilateral cooperation and international solidarity to support all countries and populations, including the world’s poorest people and People at risk, such as women and children.
6. We fully support the goal of the acceleration plan, which is to rapidly reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 on a global scale, promote the strengthening of the health system's ability to safely and effectively manage COVID-19, and restore the confidence needed for the recovery of global economic and social activities.
7. We appreciate the leadership, work and major achievements of the co-convenors and their partners in the various pillars of the acceleration plan, and recognize that they face major challenges in fully realizing the potential of this unprecedented global collaboration.
8. We believe that the acceleration plan is an inseparable part of the implementation of the World Health Assembly resolution (WHA73.1(3)) and is fully in line with the G20 leaders’ commitment on March 26, 2020. Both emphasize the need for an end-to-end solution Programs to accelerate the development and fair and universal deployment of life-saving COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and diagnostic agents.
9. We recognize that there is an urgent need to bring about phased changes in political support and funding so that the acceleration plan can fulfill its mission and accelerate the discovery and deployment of new COVID-19 tools to everyone around the world.

 

Therefore, we will:

 

• Continue to play a political leadership role, inspire and use the extensive support of the international community for the acceleration plan, including in important upcoming forums (such as the United Nations General Assembly, the G20 and G7 processes, the Paris Peace Forum, and the International Monetary Fund/World Bank group meetings) and through our respective regional cooperation groups and national processes.
• Advocate and support investment in acceleration plans in order to obtain the financial resources needed to expand the impact and change the course of the pandemic as a matter of urgency.
• Respect and realize our common commitment to not leave anyone behind in this crisis, and strive to ensure that all countries and populations have early and affordable access to the new vaccines, treatments and diagnostics that are being promoted by the acceleration plan.
